This reduces the contact of the skin with the already low nickel content and makes the material hypoallergenic and also lowers the possibility of proliferation of microorganisms and bacteria. Surgical steel is thus first choice for newly made piercings.

In nordic mythology Thor is the mightiest of all Gods and commands thunder, wind, storm and fertility. Mjöllnir symbolizes thunder and lightning and would return to Thor just like a Boomerang. It could bring death but also revive the dead back to life. Thor's Hammer was regarded by the Vikings as a symbol of (inner) strength, determination and long life. It would have been worn as a pendant as an opposing symbol to the christian cross and was connected to fertility rites and and marriage consecrations.
