SHAMAN:
The word "shaman" probably come from Sanskrit (Samana, the word for an ascetic or mendicant) or developed from the tungusic "saman" (sa=knowledge, saman=the knowing). A shaman is a person in the center of the religious and cultural phenomenon of shamanism. Thus he is the counterpart to the priest and is recognized as healer and magician. He is supposed to be able contact the "world of ghosts" through his trance journeys. Shamanism is the oldest known spiritual tradition of the world.
