Meaning and history:
In the Nordic Cultures the kind of open choker is called Torque. The appearance often resembles a rotated knit, whose end pieces often different, e.g. are shaped as animal heads or balls.
The Celtic Torque disappeared in the time, but it came back in fashion in the Viking times. Torque were probably a sovereign sign. God figures were also often represented using a Torque. The famous statue of dying gallier also shows the use of the Torque.
They were taken over by the Romans as a military award. Later the Roman Emperors were often crowned with a Torque instead of a Diadem as part of their survey.
They were also widespread throughout the Mediterranean and Arabic area. You can also find these in Slavic, Scandinavian and Baltic cultures and the Middle Ages. Also in Russia, Torque was popular until the 16th century as neck and arm jewelry.
Silver Jewelry will turn black over time. This is a normal process during which silver reacts with oxygen and sweat but also ingredients of for example skin care products. For cleaning purposes we recommend silver cleaning cloth. These are soaked with chemicals which solve silver sulfide and take on the black residue. However during this manual process small amounts of actual siver are removed as well. Do not polish silver plated jewelry in this manner too often! We always recommend to take off silver jewelry during manual labor, while performing sports and in the shower or sauna.
Attention: Small jewelry is not suitable for children under 3 years. Danger of swallowing!
